Merge Records Artists To Play Tribute To The Music Of Philip Glass, David Bowie, & Brian Eno

Chapel Hill’s Memorial Hall will host a tribute to Philip Glass next year in celebration of the experimental composer’s 80th birthday. One of the performances focuses on Symphony No. 4, “Heroes,” Glass’ interpretation of David Bowie’s 1977 album Heroes, which was co-written by Brian Eno. The piece will be performed by the UNC Symphony Orchestra led by Tony Kalam, and at the end of the night, Merge Records artists will play songs off of Heroes. Performers include Dan Bejar of Destroyer, Superchunk frontman and Merge co-founder Mac McCaughan, guitarist William Tyler, Jenn Wasner of Wye Oak, Megafaun’s Brad Cook, and jazz composer and saxophonist Ken Vandermark. The event takes place in February of 2017; buy tickets here.
