As the Tallest Man On Earth, Kristian Matsson has released four albums of pleading, proclaiming, and pondering folk grounded by the Swedish singer’s earnest and weary tenor. Since 2008’s Shallow Grave, Matsson’s style has gradually evolved from one that invokes the verbose dexterity of Dylan to most recently one swinging for the anthemic momentum of Springsteen on last year’s Dark Bird Is Home. Yesterday he released “Time Of The Blue,” which strips the Tallest Man sound back down to its humble origins and finds Matsson crooning at a crossroads. Today he’s revealed the single’s accompanying video, a simple portrait of Matsson performing the song beside a full-body mirror intercut by images of a rustic rural landscape. It’s a sonic departure from his previous sonic departure, which leads him right back to where he started: no high-concept visuals, no roaring orchestra, just the inherent force of a man, a guitar, and “the vastness of ‘I love yous.'” Rolf Nylinder directs; watch below.
