Watch Deftones’ Chino Moreno Perform Inside A Volcano

This weekend was one for the ages. The Cleveland Cavaliers became the first team to ever overcome a 3-1 deficit to win the NBA Championship among many other milestones for both the team and LeBron James individually. Dustin Johnson won golf’s US Open, his first major win ever, by overcoming a very controversial rules violation. Game Of Thrones staged its heavily hyped Battle Of The Bastards. On top of all that, it was Father’s Day on Sunday. While everyone in America seemed consumed by those things, Chino Moreno quietly became the first artist to perform inside a freaking volcano!

Moreno and the rest of Deftones headlined Iceland’s Secret Solstice festival this past Saturday, but he had a more historical show of his own 400 feet inside the shaft of the Thrihnukagigur volcano. 20 Secret Solstice ticketholders shelled out 250,000 Icelandic krona (approx. $1,970 USD) and were lowered into the volcano to see him play a three-song acoustic set featuring Deftones’ White Pony track “Change (In The House Of Flies),” a cover of a song from David Bowie’s Blackstar, and a cover of an unspecified Morrissey song. According to geologists, there was a very small chance the volcano could erupt though it hadn’t for 4,000 years. Thankfully it didn’t, and Moreno set it on fire instead. Watch clips from inside the volcano below, and watch a BBC news report on the performance here.
