Geek king J.J. Abrams, he of Star Wars/Star Trek/Lost/Cloverfield/Super 8 fame, recently got into the TV-about-music game as the co-creator of Cameron Crowe’s new Showtime series Roadies. Now he’s got another music-related project lined up, teaming with author/broadcaster Tavis Smiley to produce a television adaptation of Smiley’s upcoming book, Before You Judge Me: The Triumph And Tragedy Of Michael Jackson’s Last Days. The book, to be released tomorrow, has been touted as a novelistic interpretation of the the final months leading up the King of Pop’s death. It’s said to be an exploration of both the negative and positive aspects of the icon’s twilight and his relentless hunt for privacy and seclusion which become much more intense during his final days. There is no network attached to the project yet, but Warner Bros. is shopping the mini event series to several broadcast, cable, and premium cable networks and streaming services according to The Hollywood Reporter.
