The Album Leaf recently announced that their proper follow-up to 2010’s A Chorus Of Storytellers, entitled Between Waves, would be out this August and features singles “Back To The Start” and 2015’s “New Soul.” Now project-mastermind Jimmy LaValle has shared the forthcoming LP’s title-track, a sputtering meditation on the mantra “Between waves/I take my breath,” that ebbs and flows like the tides themselves over six minutes of monochrome synths and restrained horns. In the accompanying visual, a young girl traverses suburbia in stoic solitude in what I imagine is her on the precipice of entering her existential teenage years. Beyond her triumphant slow-motion race towards the ocean where she discovers the drowning vestiges of her childhood, the video also features some real money close-ups on her Converse.
