Obey City – “Airy (Jensen Sportag Alt. Take)” (Feat. Kelela) Video

Last year Brooklyn producer Obey City, aka Sam Obey, recruited R&B visionary Kelela for a hazy twilight ballad called “Airy.” The original track was amazing, and today there’s an equally good alternate version by Nashville duo Jensen Sportag from Obey City’s new Merlot Sounds: Alternate Versions EP. The original “Airy” was built on retro synths that exist somewhere between Tron and Top Gun on the ’80s nostalgia spectrum. Jensen Sportag have turned it into a lush ambient pop track with orchestral grandiosity and an intimate human touch. It’s like Janet Jackson teamed up with Mark McGuire, and you can hear it below along with a dance-oriented video by director Peter Marsden. Check out the original “Airy” down there while you’re at it.
