El-P Apologizes To The Pokémon Community With A New Freestyle

Pokémon Go, the new augmented reality mobile game that’s all the rage with the kids these days, involves a lot of wandering around while staring down at your phone. Honestly, it seems like a perfect recipe for getting hit by a car, but when El-P jokingly pointed this out yesterday, the Pokémon community was incensed. After realizing that “the Pokémon community” more or less equates to “the entire internet,” El-P started to backtrack on his initial comments, extending an olive branch to the outraged Pokémon fans. Then he jokingly claimed he had been hacked and attempted to prove his enthusiasm for Pokémon with a freestyle entitled “Pokéman Rappin.” Sample lyrics: “We are a community that likes the Pókemon/ And I’m just glad I’m one of you.” Finally, as Pitchfork reports, he decided to hold a “Pokéman Rappin” remix contest, offering a free t-shirt and hoodie to the creator of the best remix. So yeah, it was a real emotional rollercoaster of a day for El-P, and for Pokémon fans everywhere. Watch the whole saga unfold below.
