Watch Ty Dolla $ign’s “No Justice” Video Featuring His Incarcerated Brother

LA sing-song rapper Ty Dolla $ign is the latest to respond to the police killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. He joins Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Snoop Dogg and the Game, Miguel, Solange, Chance The Rapper, and many others in the outpouring of protest from artists both on and off wax, with the touching, potent “No Justice” video.

The clip features Ty’s younger brother, Big TC, who, according to Ty, is currently wrongfully serving a life sentence for murder. Big TC sings contemplative, urgent lyrics as footage of recent police shootings plays in slow motion. Pictures of victims are also interspersed in the footage along with the words “no conviction” highlighting the lack of accountability faced by officers for the killings. It’s also harrowing that the video takes three parts just to name all of the slain that Ty and TC sing about, and it doesn’t even come close to half of the victims in the four years since Trayvon Martin’s death in 2012 alone. Something feels different about the recent wave of responses; may they rain like a sunshower all summer and beyond until things change.
