It should come as no surprise that Suicide are a big influence on the work of former Majical Cloudz singer Devon Welsh. Suicide’s Alan Vega just passed away yesterday, and Welsh has decided to pay tribute to the late icon by sharing a previously unreleased song called “Me And Alan Vega.” “Suicide has been very inspiring and influential to me ever since I first heard their music,” Welsh writes in a note that accompanies the track. “I made this song in 2011 but never released it, I feel like posting it as a small tribute!” There’s definitely a little Suicide in its droning synth textures, and you can hear it below.

Lyrics:

Me and Alan Vega were moving through your mind
I was born in 1988 those days were fine
Now the year is 2011 boy we’re having a time
Fill your cup with diet soda think of Suicide

Here we are young and undressed
Water-filled eyes are unwept
Take a small sip of my breath, younger, sober
Count how many times I’ve touched you
Does it really even help us?
Do I even make you feel less empty, hungry?

If I died and was born again would you be my bride?
Would we meet as total strangers locked in hopeless lives?
Now the year is 2011 boy we’re having a time
Feast your eyes on devastation
Think of victimless crime

Here we are young and sun-tanned
Paranoid eyes, unknown lands
Take a small sip of what they offer to you
Count how many times you’ve loved one
Was it real or was it just fun?
Are these really faces you love, empty, hollow?

Me and Alan Vega were moving through your mind
I was born in 1988 those days were fine
Now the year is 2011 boy we’re having a time
Fill your cup with diet soda think of Suicide
