Azealia Banks Promises To Quit Social Media For Good

Azealia Banks’ long reign of internet terror has finally come to an end. After she spent years starting social-media beef with just about everyone else in music, Twitter finally suspended Banks’ account in May. (She’d made racist remarks about former One Direction member Zayn Malik, and that, apparently, was the last straw.) And today, as Billboard points out, Banks has announced on Facebook that she’s quitting all forms of social media, blaming “overly sensitive reactions and responses to everything.” She could always change her mind, of course, but that appears to be it for now. Here’s her complete statement:

I’m seriously tired of peoples feelings. I’m tired of seeing their overly sensitive reactions and responses to everything. I’m tired of having everything I say or do be monitored and I’m tired of being told how I should be behaving.

I’m quitting Facebook, and any other form of social media that allows me to engage with people.

My legacy can’t live and die on the Internet.

Goodbye.

For good.

Now: It’s not really up to Banks where her legacy lives and dies, especially once you consider that her career started with online buzz over “212.” Nonetheless, though, it’s been a fun ride. And she has always delighted in playing the heel. If you’re a wrestling fan, an Instagram like this one should explain a lot:

Nite

I wonder if every other musician suddenly feels like the wizards in the Harry Potter books did the day Voldemort disappeared.
