Roses – “Accessory”

Roses – “Accessory”

Juan Velasquez formed the trio Roses after Abe Vigoda broke up in 2014. After introducing themselves with one hell of an earworm guitar riff on “Florence Girls,” they kept their stride into the Dreamlover EP. Since then they’ve come with a few memorable one-offs that hinted at something bigger in the pipeline. Today, the LA outfit is announcing their full-length debut, Camera Trouble.

The first single is the new wave leaner “Accessory.” A bevy of bright, sustained, and stuttering synths, intricate drums, and warped psych strums swell around Marc Steinberg’s delayed vocals. Steinberg sings of how frustrating a relationship can be when you sense your partner won’t be real with you, and you can see through the facade because you know them so well. He laments, “It wears like an accessory, who are you fooling?” It’s an evocative sentiment with the surrounding soundscape lifting his voice. Listen.
