Watch The Strokes’ Nick Valensi Debut New Band CRX In LA

Just about all the members of the Strokes have some form of side project going, and stoic rhythm guitarist Nick Valensi just unveiled his. His new band is called CRX, and its lineup includes Richie Follin of Guards, as well as a bunch of guys who aren’t in prominent bands. Last night, they played their first show at the Hi Hat in Los Angeles, and based on all the footage that’s popped up online, their sound is a muscular and melodic form of garage-rock. Valensi sings lead, and for someone who’s been so silent in the background for so long, it’s impressive to see how he handles his business vocally. (Also, I really like the drummer’s White Zombie shirt.) They also have an Instagram with a very defined ’80s-neon aesthetic. Below, watch a few videos of the band playing their first performance.
