M.I.A. – “Bird Song (Diplo Remix)”

Earlier this month, M.I.A. said that she was about to reunite with ex-boyfriend and ex-collaborator Diplo on a new track called “Bird Song.” She then shared a version of that song, but it was produced by Baltimore club trailblazer Blaqstarr, not Diplo. And then M.I.A. claimed that Interscope, her label, was refusing to clear the Diplo-produced version of “Bird Song.” But everything must’ve worked out, since we now get to hear the Diplo version of the song, and it’s the best M.I.A. song we’ve heard in quite a while. The new version of the song takes the absurdist lyrics and even-more-absurdist kazoo work of the original and puts it over a huge, graceful old-school dancehall beat. It’s the sort of thing that might remind you of how great these two used to sound together. Below, listen to the track and check out the final tracklist of M.I.A.’s forthcoming album A.I.M., which she just shared on Instagram.
