Bon Iver – “33 ‘GOD'”

Bon Iver – “33 ‘GOD'”

In about a month, Bon Iver will return with 22, A Million, their first album in five years. We’ve already heard versions of two album tracks. And early this morning, Justin Vernon shared another song. “33 ‘GOD'” is an impressionistic, beat-driven reverie. It has ghostly horns, glacial synths, and voices slathered in Auto-Tune. It sounds completely different from the music on the last two Bon Iver albums, but there is still only one person on the planet who could’ve made it. Depending on where you’re sitting, you will either find it very pretty or very pretentious. Listen to it and check out the lyric video below.

22, A Million is out 9/30 on Jagjaguwar.

UPDATE: After Pitchfork reported that “33 ‘GOD'” samples Scottish singer-songwriter Paolo Nutini, Justin Vernon chimed in on Twitter to say the track also samples the Browns, Sharon Van Etten, and Lonnie Holley.
