Kodak Black Sentenced To 120 Days In Jail

Floridian rapper Kodak Black, born Dieuson Octave, has been in a Broward County jail after two outstanding warrants kept him there despite reaching a plea-agreed sentence of one year on house arrest and five subsequent years probation. Those two warrants were for misdemeanor drug charges and a much more grave sexual battery charge in South Carolina.

According to The Sun Sentinel, Octave has pled no contest to the misdemeanor charges of possession of 20 grams or less of marijuana and use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and was sentenced to 120 days in county jail in a Fort Pierce courtroom yesterday. The 19-year-old rapper won’t serve the entire four-month sentence because he’s been given credit for the he’s already spent in jail. In addition to the time behind bars, he will also have to pay $298 in court costs and his driver’s license will be suspended for a year.

That isn’t nearly the end of his legal troubles, though. Octave’s expected release date is 11/30, but he still faces the criminal sexual conduct charges. According to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, the Pompano Beach rapper is accused of committing sexual battery at a hotel in Florence around the time he played a show there earlier this year. The sheriff’s office released this statement last month: “According to investigators, on or about February 7, 2016, Octave is alleged to have engaged in the sexual battery of the victim at a hotel located at 2120 West Lucas Street, Florence, SC.”

It’s possible Octave will be extradited after serving his sentence in the St. Lucie County jail, but it’s unclear if and when that will happen. Octave’s lawyer declined to comment on the sexual battery charge, but said “I think we did well” in regards to the plea deal reached for the misdemeanor drug charges.
