The Last Shadow Puppets – “Is This What You Wanted” (Leonard Cohen Cover) Video

Leonard Cohen has been in the news a whole lot lately. He’s got a new album coming out on Friday, and in a great recent New Yorker profile, he said that he’s “ready to die.” But fear not: According to Billboard, Cohen recently spoke to a small crowd at the Canadian consulate in Los Angeles, telling them that he was probably exaggerating and that “I intend to stick around until 120.” Now, the Last Shadow Puppets, Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner’s side project with his friend Miles Kane, have contributed to Cohen’s immortality. They’ve covered “Is This What You Wanted,” a song from Cohen’s 1974 album New Skin For The Old Ceremony, and they’ve made a music video of themselves doing it.

The band covered “Is This What You Wanted” on their most recent tour, and now it’ll appear on The Dream Synopsis, a new EP that will also feature covers of the Fall, Jacques Dutronc, and Glaxo Babies. And in the new video, from director Ben Chappell, we see Turner, looking foxy and leonine, prowling and dancing about a soundstage while his band and a string section play. It’s all constructed as one continuous shot. Watch the video and check out the EP’s tracklist below.
