New Williamsburg Venue Brooklyn Steel Opening In April With PJ Harvey, Decemberists, Animal Collective

Bowery Presents — the concert promoter responsible for booking Bowery Ballroom, Terminal 5, and Music Hall Of Williamsburg (among others) in New York, and a number of other places throughout the Northeast — is opening a new venue called Brooklyn Steel in East Williamsburg. As a new New York Times profile and press release reveal, the 1,800-capacity venue will host shows by the likes of PJ Harvey, the Decemberists, Animal Collective, the Pixies, Two Door Cinema Club, Perfume Genius, Whitney, and more after it opens in April.

True to its name, the 20,000 square foot venue will be housed in a former steel factory located at 319 Frost Street and, once completed, it will feature “a balcony whose ends taper to the side walls; spacious backstage rooms; and a so-called green roof,” per the Times. “We think this is the missing link in the city,” Bowery Presents’ Jim Glancy said in the article. “In the 1,000-to-3,000 range, there aren’t that many venues for a city this size, and there hasn’t really been anything new in a decade.” Once it opens, Brooklyn Steel will be the largest general admission venue in Brooklyn.
