Talons’ – “Driving Home From Shows”

Earlier this summer, Brooklyn label Broken Circles re-released Talons’ excellent 2006 album Rustic Bullshit, which arrived alongside three new releases that project mastermind Michael Tolan put out over the last 12 months. Not one to stay quiet for long, the prolific Ohio songwriter is giving us a final drop of music before the year’s up. “Driving Home From Shows,” which is featured on this year’s installment of the annual Broken Circles winter compilation Everything Melts Eventually Vol. II, comes from a 2013 demo of the same name. As always, Tolan sounds graceful in dejection — his dour reflections delivered with a sigh over a supple and sparse acoustic guitar accompaniment. “And somewhere out in the blue, I’d learn to feel like I did when I was 20/ When everything was new, when everything was huge,” Tolan sings, his tone suggesting a reluctance to revisit those days of youth now that he’s so far removed. Listen below.
