After teasing it yesterday, Grimes has released her video for “Venus Fly,” the Janelle Monáe collaboration from Art Angels. It features the two of them in elaborate and intimidating space warrior costumes. Grimes with a budget! Who knew it could look so good? “We used the Phantom cameras to create a feeling of time suspended,” Grimes said in a press release. “I’m so grateful to TIDAL for giving me the opportunity to create the images I’ve been imagining in my head for a minute.” The video is a TIDAL exclusive right now, but if you happen to subscribe, you can watch it below. Otherwise, you can watch a minute-long preview (that’s different from the one from before).
Here’s her note about the video:
sometimes it feels futile to be making art in this cruel and extreme political climate, but some of the brightest moments of the last few months for me and for a lot of you, i suspect, have come from seeing @janellemonae ‘s amazing and positive vision of the future, especially when we are being introduced to so many possible dystopian futures. Thanks to for giving so much time, energy and creativity to this project as a director editor, creative director i also feel like is my strongest work, and i can’t wait to share w y’all. thanks @tidal for being amazing patrons of the arts!! and @route_eleven !my amazing team! (i know i just used amazing twice but woke up and my mind is devoid of adjectives at this early hour)
Grimes also shared a new “Deep Vibes” playlist for the streaming service, which you can check out here.
