All Eyez On Me, the Tupac Shakur biopic starring a virtual unknown who looks exactly like Tupac, is finally hitting theaters next month. But that’s not the only Tupac movie coming up! The Shakur estate has just announced that Steve McQueen, the Academy Award-winning director of 12 Years A Slave, has signed on to direct a fully authorized documentary on Tupac’s life.

“I am extremely moved and excited to be exploring the life and times of this legendary artist,” says McQueen in a press release. “I attended NYU film school in 1993 and can remember the unfolding hip-hop world and mine overlapping with Tupac’s through a mutual friend in a small way. Few, if any shined brighter than Tupac Shakur. I look forward to working closely with his family to tell the unvarnished story of this talented man.”

Gloria Cox, Tupac’s aunt, will exective produce.
