Rabbis are a little pissed at Madonna for her shout-out to Yitzhak Luria on her new album, Confessions On A Dancefloor, going so far as to call down divine retribution on the erstwhile Esther:

Rabbi Rafael Cohen, head of a seminary named after Luria, suggested Madonna’s actions could lead to divine retribution.

“Jewish law forbids the use of the name of the holy rabbi for profit. Her act is just simply unacceptable and I can only sympathize for her because of the punishment that she is going to receive from the heavens,” Cohen told the newspaper.

I can only think of that Kids in the Hall sketch where it turns out God existed, but that he’s dead, and only three feet tall.

Like, how is Rafael going to feel if God exists, but he’s gay, and he smites Madonna for losing her touch? He’d say, “But I totally choose you people. For your suffering. Ok, mwah!”
