The new +/- album Xs On Your Eyes comes out at the end of the next month. “Snowblind,” the lead track, finds the Brooklyn trio layering glitchy percussion behind James Baluyut’s familiar, dusky vocals. (It’s not this “Snowblind,” by the way.) In the beginning the song sounds less like a snowstorm than a light coating; even when the sprung guitars enter, shifting the speed instrumental density, it’s pure exhilaration. Listening to the lyrics, it’s clear the storm’s taking place inside someone’s head, that someone’s stumbling mentally. There’s even mention of a “sandstorm,” so it’s the turbulence that matters, not the temperature.

That guitar part’s reminiscent of awesome “pre-blog” Versus — fronted, of course, by James’s brother Richard, and in its later form including 2/3 of +/-. Speaking of which, +/- is on tour with their sister/brother/etc band in October:

10/25 – Yamagata, Japan @ Sandinista
10/26 – Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan @ O-Nest
10/28 – Matsumoto, Japan @ Alecx
10/29 – Nagoya, Japan @ Tokuzo
10/30 – Kyoto, Japan @ Metro
11/07 – Taguig City, Philippines @ Mag:net Bonifacio High St.
11/08 – aguig City, Philippines @ Mag:net Bonifacio High St.

Versus played with Love Is All and the Crystal Stilts at the Bowery Ballroom in June. It’s unclear if there’ll be any additional US dates.

Xs On Your Eyes is out 10/21 via Absolutely Kosher.
