Eugene McGuinness earned his BTW bona fides last year on the back of the great, pseudo-spooky pop romp (and memorable cartoony clip) “Monsters Under The Bed.” The video wound up being a YouTube front pager, and the single wound up on the eight track mini-album The Early Learningn Of Eugene McGuinness. Still enamored with his name, then, Eugene’s promising a self-titled full length debut this October. Its first single “Moscow State Circus” is another ramshackle jangler, albeit sunnier, and packing a video featuring linedancing fencers, sorta like that WMMF video without the Lance Armstrong.

Eugene McGuinness is out in the UK on 10/13 via Domino. Here’s a tracklist:

01 “Rings Around Rosa”
02 “Fonz”
03 “Wendy Wonders”
04 “Moscow State Circus”
05 “Those Old Black and White Movies Were True”
06 “Nightshift”
07 “Atlas”
08 “Knock Down Ginger”
09 “Crown The Clown”
10 “Not So Academic”
11 “Disneyfied”
12 “God In Space”

And here’s what grabbed us in the first place:

Earlier this year Eugene did a session at the World Cafe for NPR, which you can still hear here. Have a listen to a live version of the forthcoming LP’s “Knock Down Ginger” at MySpace.
