Not a total departure from Roo’s hippie roots, but it’s nice to see Radiohead and Tom Petty headlining instead of Trey, Dave, and the ubiquitous Warren Haynes. This will be my third Bonnaroo; Stereogum’s highlights from last year’s fest here.

    3. Wow, Coachella, you got served….

Could this mean less Dead Heads and frat daddies descending upon the fields of Manchester? No way, man… no way…

    5. OMG bonnarroo issss sooooo better because they have RADIOHEAD and…

…and that’s it. Oh, and Bonnie Raitt. She’s a hottie.

    6. So, I’ve never been to this fest. Is it fun? Is it run well? Do you camp? or is it best to stay in a hotel? Thanks!

    7. I really think I’d like to go, but I’m scared of the overwhelming patchouli-laced B.O. funk I might encounter there in sweaty June.

    8. I can’t imagine the BO funk making a difference, I was in Austin for Austin City Limits Festival and it attracts the same crowd, i.e. Widespread Panic, Trey Anastasio, etc… and it was hot as hell, but the crowd I imagine is pretty similar and there was no BO stench…

I’ve gone for 2 years. Yes, lots of hippies, but it’s fine. They’re very open-minded and without some of their jamband kings this year, the numbers might be smaller.

Very, very well run. I never used a gross port-a-potty, in fact they keep them so well-maintained they even smell….nice. Stage and tent placement is good. Most people camp, that I will not do (campgrounds look…gross after 2 days). Hotels in area are crap, but there’s music from noon to 4am every day, didn’t spend a lot of time in the hotel.

No corporate sponsorships near any of the music, there’s a big village where that takes place. But that village offers a lot of cool stuff. Food & Beverage is not outrageously priced. I’ll be back this year.

huge fan of beck – he solidified the lineup and assured my spot there – but in all honesty I cant say i have ever seen or heard him live. any one got the lown down on beck live?

    11. Bonnaroo is extremely well run, even when there were flash floods last year. It’s a really enjoyable experience and it’s not all hippies. Just don’t take the brown acid.

This lineup is awesome, I’ve never been to Bonnaroo but i really want to go this year… love Radiohead and Beck, (and for that previous poster, Beck is awesome live, saw him with the Flaming Lips a couple years back)–I would love to see Tom Petty too, he’s awesome… I’m a little surprised DMB isn’t on the lineup, but I saw them last year on the VoteForChange tour so it doesn’t really matter (though I wouldn’t mind if they signed on later…)

      for fuck’s sake,
why does canada have to be so isolated?

    15. scott  |   Posted on Feb 2nd, 2006 0

i have no interest in seeing any of those bands/performers.

      rock is dead.

    16. shut the fuck up, scott….

rock is alive and kickin’ your ass!

where are the drive by truckers?

Anyone want to do a rideshare down there? Maybe a hotel crash? My friends are too broke. I don’t have wheels, but would share gas and banter. Or share a rental. Besides Radiohead, I love Andrew Bird, Malkmus, Buddy Guy, Amadou and Mariam, Seu Jorge, The Clap, Beck, etc… Other attributes include excellent hygiene and no patch pants.

      two things:

Bonnaroo is totally awesome. Last year was my first year, and I second the comments made about it being a very well run festival for its size. I stayed at a motel. I don’t mind the rain and mud, just give me a chance to clean up at the end of the day! And a bed is great after a 9+ hour drive!

Two – Beck is great in concert. Caught his show in Camden, NJ last year. My fiance, not really into Beck but a big time concert goer, nevertheless, was blown away. I actually wasn’t expecting much concertwise, but his music has enough variety and energy to keep it interesting throughout. He likes doing fun stuff with his bandmembers and he does a lot of with visuals to accent the experience.

Sorry for long post but the Bonnaroo line up this year has me psyched!

No one has mentioned the fact that friggin Bela Fleck and the Flecktones are playing and how bout ROBERT RANDOLPH and the family band they are amazing live, amazing lineup.

    20. Well, my wife was upset when she heard about who was there last year and that we missed it. This year we will be going. It will be nice to see Beck, Radiohead, Tom Petty (before he dies), Robert Randolph, Death Cab, Rusted Root, Doughty, and I am sure a lot that I can’t remember right now.

I think it will be an 11 hour ride down there, but for about $2 a band, it should be worth it. Now we have to start buying the tent, cooler, etc.

    21. waiting on bonnaroo 07
