dani cali might not be the best song the chilis have ever written but its certainly not the worst. you haters out there need to stop bein so negative about the world’s greatest rock band just because their latest song isn’t like “under the bridge” or “give it away”. that youthful energy and imigination on “blood-sugar…” is something that can’t be repeated. bands always can and will change their sound according to what they feel like doing and its up to them. personally i think they should bring back some of the energetic mother’s milk funk-punk like “fire” and “stone cold bush” but i can accept their changes to their music. “save the population” was probably the nearest they they got to that recently, even if they chose to release “fortune faded” instead. and the video’s not that bad. if you look back at the dodgy colours and lights on “breaking the girl” and “under the bridge”, its actually quite good (though it’ll never compete with the silver painted, desert jam in “give it away”.) half of you pricks need to actually listen to some proper music before just hearing “dani cali” and saying that the chilis are overrated. JF is one of the best guitarists since hendrix and that’s saying something. most of aren’t real RHCP fans anyway because if you were you’d allow them to make whatever music they wanted without judging them on their video. don’t judge a book by its cover. at least listen to the whole album before slating them.

P.S. whoever says the backstreet boys are better than the chilis should be shot i’m afraid. i mean, what type of crack have you been smoking?

To all those that say the song or the peppers are bland and sound like another fm band please tell us who else in the world sounds like them????? Their music is completl And as for the video, Arcadium is supposed to have a alot of old rock’nroll themes and so that mood may have inspired the band to do a history of rock’nroll as their video.
They really are one of the most talented bands on earth and as such are recognised by famous bands as well as ones with small fanbases, like The Mars Volta.

  5. jade  |   Posted on Apr 9th, 2006

ook, so its a catchy song.
obviously not one of their best,-a little low on energy, and originality- but an okayyy sngle. im a bit disapointed, but hopefully the album will be better.
the video was slightly amusing, entertaining, but over all a little lame.

  6. jade  |   Posted on Apr 9th, 2006

    and who is dani?!!

  7. ogheuihfdas  |   Posted on Apr 9th, 2006

the moron who said “i thought they’d done there california song” needs to realise that every single RHCP song is about california life

  8. this song is heaps cool, awesome rhcp, hope stadium arcadium is just as good

p.s dani is supposed to represent every girl anthony has ever met/dated

  9. lili  |   Posted on Apr 10th, 2006

it’s really going somewhere. reall, really nice song. and the video really rocks.

  10. Jamie Henry  |   Posted on Apr 10th, 2006

what the fuck is all the hating for? the red hot chili peppers are one of the most influential bands of all time! and lets not forget they have been around for over 20 years and are still going strong! I am really pissed off that one song is actually making you doubt them, i mean cum on it is one song and i personally fink that is is brilliant! It is new, original, fresh and still manages to blend in the funky tones that they are so famous for in the first place!

  11. DannyT  |   Posted on Apr 10th, 2006

at first i thought it was somewhat bland and too structured, but thats cause i wase comparing it to all the chilis earlier stuff. After a couple of listens, i find myself dancing round my living room when the chorus kicks in. Frusciante is awesome as always. Not my favourite chili’s song, but catchy none the less. I didnt like their previous first soingle “by the way” first time i heard it but that album was outstanding.

  12. Cerbero  |   Posted on Apr 10th, 2006

I LOVE RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS AND I LOVE DANI CALIFORNIA…this song is fantastic…I WANT 9 MAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!STADIUM ARCADIUM!!!!!!!!!

well i like rhcp A LOT! as dus ma boyfriend but i must admit this wasnt one of their best songs however i did enjoy it!!! i cannot wait til their album kums out!!!!!!the solo is awesome!!it wasnt too bad!

  14. Elly161  |   Posted on Apr 10th, 2006

So…first of all to those who say that Backstreet Boys could be compared to RHCP in any way i’d tell-Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson rule too,eh?This band is unique, probbably the only one that still makes valuable music and you’re trying to offend them for doing a song that is typically in their style. To me this means that you are just not aware enough of their music. This song is really good, you just have to listen it with attention.I love it!Keep on the good job guys!!!

  15. kane  |   Posted on Apr 10th, 2006

excelent!!!!!!!!!! im a huge fan of chilis n once agen they’v released anuva gr8 song!!!the video is wicked n i love the bit wen they perform like nirvana tht jus makes me piss myself!! i jus wana say to any1 tht hasnt rele listend 2 chilis tht much, tht they shud chek out sum mor stuff!! 17. *Get Addicted*  |   Posted on Apr 10th, 2006

When i first heard this a few days ago i was dissapointed…i thot anthony was singing a country song..cuz it had a plot..hehe…but then i realized wow…I am trying to structure the RHCP…haha..and they came out with something unlike wat we have…its very cute….and now..I LOVE IT!…haha…I just smile, especially the music video…I find when u REALLY LIKE a band..u have high expectations and want them to qualify…LOVING a band *such as i love RHCP* means that whatever they make must be important somehow…AND I AM IN NO POSITION TO JUDGE…only thank God that its ALIVE and they’re STILL PLAYING…those of u who criticize this ROT IN HELL BASTARDS!….MUAHA>>>>AND FRUSCIANTE IS HOTTER THEN EVER!..I LUV MY BABIES….KEEP IT COMIN!…u’ve age but u havent lost it at all..I LOVE YOU ALL SOOOOO MUCH!

  18. frusciante_fan  |   Posted on Apr 10th, 2006

wat the hell r all u guys on about this song is the entirety of the chili peppers it has the funk hook that they r known for and combines it with a rockin anthem and nicely based melody chorus with the chords, this album will be th best fing since californication!!

  19. MOTHAFUCKA  |   Posted on Apr 10th, 2006

you people are so dumb. most of you are illiterate. this song is amazing. the video is just as amazing. and all of you people who are fans of john….why? his voice is the most annoying thing ever granted he is an amazing guitarist but when he sings with them live it ruins every song. the video is so good and its so much better than anything they have released recently their last album was so boring at least this single is really good.get off your high horses, what makes u such amazing critics? this song is good and i knwo that when everyone loves it you’ll love it to you fucking fair weather fans. oh and i agree with the post about it being good like californication. its amazing and the exact opposite of meh. gnight

  20. Dash  |   Posted on Apr 11th, 2006

This song is actually fucking cool..and so is the video.
Whoever said that this song ‘sucks’ is talking out of their asshole.

  21. good song, not one of their best but still a decent song stop moanin bitches

  22. James  |   Posted on Apr 11th, 2006

I personally think the song is good. If I’m being honest I prefer the old stuff but bands evolve and singles are always a bit more commercial than the entire album. As much as the old funk crazy stuff was brilliant, they won’t make it anymore – They are a different band to what they were a few decades ago completely which is good because most people would harp on about how they never do anything new if they made album after album of funk/punk. Let them experiment with what they want to do and listen with an open mind rather than being overly critical of every lyric of guitar solo. Also don’t judge the album before it’s heard, the hit song is bound to be commercial and although its not my favourite by some way it’s certainly not crap and I’d prefer it to half the manufactured ‘punk’ or ‘emo’ bands that are about at the moment with cool haircuts lol.

  23. pepijn  |   Posted on Apr 11th, 2006

rhcp rulezzz en their new song is pretty good only the clip sux big time..:P

  24. I so badly want to see the rhcp in concert!!!
they are one of the best bands in the world!!! I know Amy will agree!!!!!

  25. Samantha  |   Posted on Apr 11th, 2006

To all you so-called fans knocking this track….you lot obviously cannot see an overall meaning of the whole Dani- California thing. Also speaks volumes of how much you understand the lyrics and lyrics on past albums as a few ppl have pointed out. These guys have evolved beautifully over the decades and anyone dare to question that …why bother posting? You don’t “get” the band …thats clear.
They are fantastic live….and im damn sure this albums going to be special indeed.
Who gives a shit what track they release first …..just as long as they keep making music in the realm that that they do…i’ll keep buying.

  26. freakette  |   Posted on Apr 11th, 2006

song’s pretty good but mostly i’m happy about anthonys hair growing back! i mean the longer the better.. and john looks effin gorgeous!

tell me tell me, in the clip, what’s the band the boys are performing anth wearing the tall hat and bright blue colours, make up etc??!!

  27. It’s a bland effort, i must admit that i’m not a big fan of them but some of their previous efforts like Scar Tissue are fantastic rock records but this is just uninspired and nothing special. Shame, but maybe the album will hold up better but then i said that about the Foo Fighters In Your Honour…and we all know how that ended up.

  28. I personally like the song. I also think the video is really entertaining and creative. It’s about time somebody took the time to remember kurt cobain. That unplugged part in the video is my favorite, however, i think it could have been done a little better.

  29. not that this is relevant to the fact that this is a really good song, but the third chord in last dance with mary jane is a d while the third chord in dani california is a d minor, if u were musical u would be able to hear that i’ve never left a comment on whatever the hell this is before so i have no idea what i’m doing, please don’t be too mean, j/k, this is a great song, and the chili peppers are one of the greatest bands ever

  30. stuart  |   Posted on Apr 12th, 2006

hey. If people dont like it its the problem. it rocks. i dont see why people dont like it. the video isnt that great though,

  31. Jeff  |   Posted on Apr 12th, 2006

RHCP = One of the greatest existing bands out there. This song is a perfect lead single as it is going to grab attention before they slip into an album filled with their old funky sound. A quote from them: “If you don’t like this [Stadium Arcadium] then you don’t like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.” If you don’t like the Chilli Peppers then stop wasting your time here and move on.

  32. funkymonk  |   Posted on Apr 12th, 2006

rhcp are my favourite band by far, dani california is one of my fav songs right now. you cant hate on them from what they have been through. wicked band, wicked song, wicked video and i bet the new album will be just as good!!!

  33. freaky_styley  |   Posted on Apr 13th, 2006

yeah, I agree with some earlier comments – it’s a good song to release…ok so .. not the most genius of thier stuff but still. I have all their previous albums and I don’t think that Dani California is shit at all, Geez compaired to half the stuff currently out, it’s a nice change to hear them again, but they had to obviously use something more mainstream to bring people in. I have faith this will be one of their best albums, if not the best// Flea was saying how it’s the best they’ve played and he’s pretty confident so yeah..
It’s to early to decide they’ve become shite.

  34. kool random  |   Posted on Apr 13th, 2006

i think its an awesum song so all u fools that think its shit can all go suck a big one

  35. It’s ah-ight. It’s a decent rock single, but not on par of the Peppers’ previous hits.

I was really bored by their last album — only two or three good tracks and the rest of the tracks were mopey drags — which really doesn’t suit them at all. I hope the new one is a return to the “Funky Monks”-era…

  36. mark  |   Posted on Apr 13th, 2006

hey i luv rhcp and i no there coming to aus but does ne1 no if it is 18 and overs??? if you no can u let me no at mark_volcom_69@hotmail.com thanks

  37. basR  |   Posted on Apr 13th, 2006

keke plz cry go listen to other music if u dont like it stop spamming this insane great band,
or go dieing under a rock or smthing
this number is insane like most of rhcp
    :O

  38. Bah u people r so simple.. its a gr8 song anyway we cant judge till the album comes out…all u people that dont like it go home your village’s are missing their idiot’s

  39. s keck  |   Posted on Apr 13th, 2006

i mean it’s a pretty typical rhcp song. i thought it was pretty good. the hook is good. the verses are usually how they go about things…that funk music feel to it. i like the solo at the end too, they always have this classic rock/funk feel to their music and i think thats why people don’t like it. people now like all that fall out boy rock shit, which is a shame bc those punk rock bands with…few and slim exceptions have no talent at all. u dont see many bands pulling out solos anymore with their guitar that actually have some sound. dani california also, like everyone else has been saying is not about california. and california is one of their main themes, so yea your gonna see it a bit. why don’t yall take a look at the lyrics and look at the meaning. i mean isnt that what your suppose to do with poetry?

  40. s keck  |   Posted on Apr 13th, 2006

its agood song. typical of their style-funk/classic rock feel to it, but thats what they do. its not a california song. its a song about a girl, about dani- which is an often theme by them. i guess for people who listen to punk rock which is …practical no talent at all…with very few exceptions…it makes sense you wouldn’t like something like this.

  41. J Hole  |   Posted on Apr 14th, 2006

All you nay-sayers are being ridiculous. This is easily one of the best songs I’ve heard from the Peppers since before Californication. Dani California is a great f-cking song and the video is brilliant. I’m honestly confused at most of the reviews I’ve read. You people are retarded, rock is coming back in a big way so stop with your shit about this new single. Everytime a decent rock band is played on the radio we are being redeemed from the rap/pop/bubblegum shit that’s polluting the airwaves. Keep in mind RHCP (along with other bands)are going to rid us of that trash.

  42. John  |   Posted on Apr 14th, 2006

The Red Hot chili Peppers Rule.
The song is sweet and if you would listen to the lyrics you may understand the song better.

  43. Unks  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2006

I been a RHCP for 20 some years
I got a few of the bootlegs
    U aint seen nothing yet
    my fav is 21st century’
    I found
ready made, tell me baby, desecration smile
kill for your country, she’s only 18 (demo)
I had Dani acoustic since March, now i got the sinlge & video
BUT LET ME TELL YOU LOOK OUT FOR A SONG CALLED CHARLIE~

    #1 RHCP FAN IN NY
    CAN’T WAIT UNTIL MAY 9TH

  44. Beeswax  |   Posted on Apr 15th, 2006

At first listen, I didn’t really like the song. But after listening to it as each day passes on the radio, the tune gets catchier and now I like it. I’ll admit though, it couldve been better. Their past albums kicked ass with singles like Around the World and By The Way..Hopefully this single won’t completely preview what their new album is like.

  45. just seen the chilis at bbc london for top of the pops … brill set over an hr !..watch tonight ( sunday ) bbc2 7pm

  46. Ducky  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2006

this songh is one of their better songs.
it is champion. if they can keep on making more
songs like this they will easily hit the top of the charts

  47. RHCP r boring in my opinion, very overrated, alot of people who dont appreciate music that much like them, some songs r gd and most r shit, as for ther new song, it is a dissapointment, video is quite funny but the band r way overrated,i’d never see them live

  49. Nath  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2006

wat do u guys mean? RHCP r the best rock/funk band ever! I was worried dat the new single would b crap but it fuckin rules. Iv luved the chilis from their first “sexed up funk” albums to the more “rockish’” californication and by the way. This song is no exception. The chili rule, always hav done, always will

  50. Modern Day Rock Sucks  |   Posted on Apr 16th, 2006

How can you hate the bass, beat, and guitar to this song? ALL OF THEM?

I guess you people who aren’t happy at all would rather listen to crap like Good Charolette or basically any of the other horrible modern day rock bands that are just Backstreet Boy clones in rock gear?

  51. Wow, I can’t believe some of the pretentious remarks flying around this page. Are any of you out there with your songs on the radio? Do any of these horn tooters have a clue about how many rules are applied to putting out an album of this magnitude? You can’t compare apples to oranges. You can’t compare this band to another, nor to their own body of work. I think this album will have a lot to offer. I think many of the high horse riders need to take a peek into a mirror and ask theirselves… could I do this? If you can answer yes to that, then let the comments rip. If you can’t pick up an instrument, sing, or write a song, find something else to critique. I come from the old school of if you don’t have something nice to say, zip it. I have not heard the entire album. I have heard Dani California. I think the song is good. Better than 98% of what is circulating the airwaves. I am sure between two cd’s there are many more songs that I will be turned on to more. Individually, each member of this band has contributed more to the music world than most. God bless John Frusciante as a soloist, and as a team player. Common, how many bassists can pull off what Flea does? There is only one RHCP. I think they have done amazing things in their lifetimes. I bet most of us would give up a kidney to be standing in their shoes. There are a lot of bands out there that suck all the way. This is not one of them. Bless them all… they are survivors, and although many times they aren’t reinventing the wheel, they have so many stellar performances to date… who has the right to throw tomatoes at their work? Not me, and I doubt anyone else. Positivity is the key to happiness and the dream of world peace. Respect thy neighbor. If you were to sum up the meanings of all the books of religions… there are two words. BE NICE. Bless all the positive folks out there. I think RHCP will continue to offer great music to the world. Word to your mothers.

What are all you people nuts!!! If you want to bag this song you guys need to give up listening to music as you know nothing at all!!!! Last Dance with Mary Jane give me a break what next you will say it sounds like The Stones Sympathy for the Devil (for the non flowers, other words it doesn?t sound anything like Mary Jane) I am sure all you non believers will be having to swallow your stupid comments when the album is out.

  54. um, obsession with california much?

  55. wtf is with the negaitve comments, its an amazing single and the never fail. they are incredible and unique.

  56. billy  |   Posted on Apr 17th, 2006

this song may not be the best rhcp song, but its still pretty damn good. ive heard a couple other songs on the album and i have very high expectations and i know they wont let me down

  57. Emily  |   Posted on Apr 17th, 2006

so…..i assume that you ppl can write a better song?? stop being so critical jesus christ you arrogant dick weeds. This song is still a great song its just apparently not good enough for you…

  58. wat i didn’t like in video is how it looked like he was taking the piss outa kurt cobain, in one scene of the vid, which is out of order, im sure most of u guys r now gona say somethin negative bout him but he was a musical legend who changed the rock scene of the nineties, it just irratated me on the vid to do something like that, song was pretty gd though

  59. Tanya  |   Posted on Apr 17th, 2006

I Think u guys don’t know what your going on about, their band looks for new and inovative ways of expressing music you have to give them a chance and they will open your eyes to the bigger picture. If you don’t like one of there songs you don’t like them at all! They keep it real and lift up peoples souls I’d like to see you do that to someones life…..

  60. Chantelle  |   Posted on Apr 17th, 2006

great lyrics … like always, kinda catchy beat, video liked … overall though … kinda crappy for the leadoff single .. and now im just gonna throw this out there but, i think they like California a little to much ?

  61. Cross  |   Posted on Apr 18th, 2006

I don’t know what half of you critics are on about! the Chili’s are one of (if not THE) best funk rock bands in existance! as a bass guitarist I worship the Chili’s and Flea simply because of their skill, and as if any of u people that are slagging them off could do any better! I love the song, the bassline and the Chili’s in general. So all you stupid tastles critics can start slagging them off when you can do better or if you prefer go off and listen to some retard like DJ Rankin or something. If any of you knew how difficult it was to play a good funk rhythm (i.e. the chili peppers) let alone compose one you would not be saying such harsh things. Did you know that in the world of rock and music a rock/funk fused style is the most difficult style to play/compose. If you disagree you must be one hell of a retard

    thanks for reading/listening

  62. Anthony  |   Posted on Apr 18th, 2006

All you haters are effin wack.

    rhcp have always been good.

how about you quit with ur hating and make ur own band and make it big.

    yeah, right.

  63. Kristen  |   Posted on Apr 19th, 2006

ITs about the GIRL named ‘Dani California’
    not actually California its slef
this is the girl that was in the song ‘By The Way’…. “Dani the girl singing songs to me betheath the Markee”….yes…that one…its a continuation.

i think this so is okay but they sing to much about california !!!!!!!!! why cant they sing something about somewhere else or someone else?? is that tooo much to ask for?

  66. Kevin  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2006

I love HUUUGE RHCP fans that don’t know anything about them.
1st of all the song is amazing
2nd of all “dani” isn’t just in By The Way where she is “singing songs to him beneath the marquee” but is also the “teenage bride with a baby inside” in the song californication. “Dani” represents every girl he has ever known, and if your a RHCP fan then you would love this song.

  67. erm.rhcp are easily the best rock band ever. They had been around longer than most bands/solo artists.thats saying something. Its not boring if u understand what the songs mean

  68. Doc Koolbreeze  |   Posted on Apr 20th, 2006

Not the best RHCP song. Not bad, though. Not destined to be the classic that their first single,”City of Angels” is, from back in ’92.

  69. Settit  |   Posted on Sep 3rd, 2006

    its called “under the bridge”

  70. I’ve heard two songs and seen two videos, have they lost the wonderful creativity shown on the last two albums? I am extremely dissappointed. I was a huge fan.

  71. Record company EMI sign a deal with the estate of crooner Dean Martin to use the singer’s likeness…

  72. yea whoever thinks this song sucks can go to hell becuz red hot chili peppers are tha s**** and yall dont even under stand the f***** song so..suck my nuts bitches

  73. And you do?

They’ve over done the cali thing IMO and it sounds like last dance with mary jane like you all said …EVERYTHING else but that song on that album is great and beautyful…. to me dani cali is something their record label pushed because pop sells not beauty and art….And not only that but I bet the band feels the same way…you notice they are the only band from many eras that have lasted through all of them by making music of all different kinds….they are growing and changing all the time …you cant expect them to stay the same with their socks on their cocks when theyr like 90

take a min and think about it ….also think about how your musical tastes have changed through the years ….so has theirs

  74. roachie_kiedis  |   Posted on Nov 23rd, 2007

RHCP are awesom. Yeah, it’s a popy song, but the rest of the music isn’t. They’re fantastic.
