Tom Petty

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers will release their first studio album in eight years this spring. It’s called Mojo, and once it’s released it’ll be a free download for anyone who buys a ticket to their upcoming tour. “Good Enough” is from the forthcoming album, and it’s a bluesy track about a girl gone bad (Petty loves ’em) with lots of humming organ. He hinted at this in a Rolling Stone interview last year:

It’s blues-based. Some of the tunes are longer, more jam-y kind of music. A couple of tracks really sound like the Allman Brothers — not the songs but the atmosphere of the band.

The tour starts in May, with Joe Cocker, Crosby Stills and Nash, Drive-By Truckers, and My Morning Jacket opening up different shows.

  1. this is wonderful. a good petty track– surprised to hear this much “jamming” on a heartbreakers studio cut. glad the band is getting out for the summer! truly one of america’s greatest song writers.

  2. I hope to see them in NYC and Atlanta. Who’s opening in NYC???

I uploaded this crazy 80s dance mix of TPATH’s “Make It Better”. Totally different than the above track.

  3. Actually, My Morning Jacket will be opening the Boston and New Jersey shows.

  4. Is there really a difference between Petty’s solo albums and Heartbreakers albums? I mean, Wildflowers was a “solo album” so that he wouldn’t have to put up with Stan Lynch complaining all the time. Now half the band is sidemen anyway.

As for the song, it’s definitely in that late-period Petty moody mode. That is to say, meh.

    • I think there is a slight difference between solo and Heartbreakers material. For me, there is a warmth to his solo records that isn’t really present on any band album (except maybe Into The Great Wide Open). Wildflowers, Full Moon Fever, and Highway Companion share that “warm” sound… I think the only member to be present on all of his albums is Cambell. The day Mike leaves, the Heartbreakers are done.

  5. I loved the first two solo records but highway companion was seriously lacking. This song sounds like a throwback to echo which is seriously underrated.

  6. Good enough.

  7. I loved Good Enough. Of course I love everything Tom petty and Mike Campbell put out. I have been with this band since 1976. I remember buying the Southern Accents album in 1980..Loved it then, love it now. Echois one of the best albums ever in my humble opinion….and highly underrated….hear it once twivce and a few hundred times… will see why. So now I am 48 anfd my kid aged 7 is in love with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers…loves every song, every album….watched the 4 hour epic movie with me a couple times… for a 7 year old he can recite by rote memory, all the original band members, who left and when….his favs are Mike Campbell (because he stayed with Tom all through the thick and thin….and Mr. Bejamin Montgomery Tench…..who makes the band gel…. Anyway…I hope Tom Mike and Benmont live forwever…I cant wait to tell my 7 year old tomorrow that his Heartbreakers are touring…I will plan to see the first show in Raleigh NC and the last show in Sarasota Springs NY and as many in-between,,,,,nothing but front row…and my 7 year old son Matthew will be with me…. OK Good Enough has been playing in a loop for the past 2 hours love,. it……I was hooked withthe opening lead by Campbell…..vintage Tom Petty in A Minor and D Minor and E….ahhhhh like IV…drip sdrip drip…24 carat rock staright into the blood stream….it does not get better……not in this life time

  8. i fucking hate Tom Petty.

  9. Its been 4 hours of Good Enough non stop. Great opending lead. I plugged in my Fender Stratocaster into my handwired AC30 VOX with the reverb and delay turned on and oh God….that E chord sounds so good….. E-Am-C…. its 3 chord heaven for me…and whats good enough for tom is great for me… Matthew is my son. He is all of 7 years old. For the past 2 years this child has been hooked on Tom Petty and the HeartBreakers. I weaned him on TP’s vocals and MC’s melodious guitar work starting with thre Greatest Hits album and worked him all the way from the 1st 1976 album with the 1st song, Breakdown, to all of the in betweens (Into the Great Wide, Echo, Wildflowers, Full Moon Fever, Highway Companion are my favs…) I just hope that the Heartbreakers shell out some dough and record a live concert in this tour and put it on 1080p HD on Blu Ray (like the Soundtage concert in Blu Ray) and with a little bit of luck maybe they will catch me and Matthew in the front row….Ihave been a fan forever but I can best my last dollar that there isnt a bigger 7-year old fan than Matthew,,,,He is just going to go crazy-silly-happy when he learns that the heartbreakers are touring….ok..time to book airline tickets to Raleigh NC… BTW…the lead in Good Enough is easy to play..thats what I have always loved about Mike Campbell…the leads are so melodious and he does not show off or centerstage himself but rather supports the song…brings back haunting memories of “Its Good to be King” live on the Anthology album
GREAT GOING GUYS…..HOPE THE REST OF “MOJO” IS AS GOOD AS THIS TRACK……………HOPE YOU RECORD AT LEAST 2-3 MORE ALBUMS… PLEASE TAKE MY 7 YEAR OLD KID INTO HIS TEENS …PLEASE…This is 24-carat rock…..It does not get better than this…..and you kids out there.,….listen the fuck up and listen to this shit…..this is what rock and roll iis all about…..I get a hard on listening to “Its Good to Be King” and I cry when I listen to “Its all Right for Now”……these songs touch your soul…

…Listen to the lyrics of Good Enough……Tom loves bad girls,,,,the girls gone bad…..(so do i) scorching guitar work by Mike…..he always had it……the leads are timeless…they dont belong to any period…….(unlike Van Halen, Dokken and all that shit…cloogged up the 80s…) Tom and Mike kicked ass in the 70′s, 80′s, 90′s (albeit dark and soulful), and this decade continues with the great stuff….I can never understand why Echo was so underrated and why people dont get the Highway Companion…..I think one of the best songs Tom wrote is Square One in thre Highway Companion album……… :-$

    • I totally agree with you! TP & the HBs are Timeless!! And Square One is one of the best in the catalog. The new song is as good as rock and roll as you get!! I”m positive the new album will produce on all levels!
