Recent Band To Watch Freelance Whales set up in Grand Street Recording for a cozy-looking session. They recorded “Generator ^ Second Floor” in the studio’s living-room-like main room, which only adds to the sweet, gently buzzing warmth inside the song already. Singer Judah Dadone says it was the first time the band recorded in a real studio, so the band changed up some of the arrangements to use the studio’s impressive resources.

Pilot whales stranded again
Freelance photographer Katinka Visser from Nelson was taking photos of the stranding for Project Jonah, the second time she had done so. "I love the noises they make," she said. "You feel satisfied. I dug one whale out completely on my own which was really rewarding.
