Little Miss Sufjan

The trailer for Little Miss Sunshine, starring Greg Kinnear, Steve Carell, and Toni Collette, has some nice Flaming Lips and Sufjan Stevens tunes. (We’re told Toni is a big Sufjan fan.) Watch here. The film (out 7/26) was directed by husband-and-wife Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, who ruled MTV in the ’90s with music videos for The Smashing Pumpkins, RHCP, Weezer, and R.E.M. (They also directed some episodes of Mr. Show.)

DeVotchKa composed the score for Sunshine. You can listen to the band’s “The Winner Is” (and Suf’s “No Man’s Land,” from the soundtrack/Avalanche) here.

Speaking of Mr. Stevens, Scritti Politti’s Green Gartside tells Digital Spy who we should be listening to at the moment. (Via Largehearted Boy):

“Sufjan Stevens – and he’s just astonishing. He’s like some mad gay Christian American singer-songwriter who just writes the most amazing stuff.”

Wait, Sufjan’s gay? I’m so confused.
