Clip’s 21 seconds, plenty long enough to continue the Trapper Keeper ’80s vibes of the cover art with some Tim & Eric bumper music and VHS era graphic treatments demonstrating the finer points of Congratulations’ sophisticated packaging: 32-page booklet, custom coin included so you can jag at the scratch-off cover. Not scratch-n-sniff because it would smell only of distraction and uncertain anxiety. Does this album have a shot at meaningfully backing up “Kids”? Time to pretend:

I can’t tell you how infuriating this is. I was always on the fence about MGMT anyway. Not sure why a band would intentionally fuck with their following/fans/future, but oh well. I know some people will love it, but it’s gimmicky and all kinds of lame.
Mmmm i could care less for all this gimmicky crap they are doing and just wait till the actual album drops.
I’m all for unique marketing techniques and making yourself stand out from the crowd, but an unusual idea doesn’t necessarily equate to a good idea. What exactly does a scratch-off album cover have to do with their music again?

Jeez people – It’s obvious that you don’t like the band. Even if they plated the damn thing in gold, you’d probably wouldn’t buy it. I applaud them for trying to do something unique. At least they’re trying to give you your money’s worth.
