They did “The High Road” for David Letterman on Tuesday, but last night’s performance on Late Night was more exciting, because you got to hear James Mercer stretch his falsetto muscles. Both “The High Road” and “The Ghost Inside” amble along at mid-tempo, but the latter has better points of interest: multiple keyboard hooks, drum machines, trumpet, etc. Last night’s guests were Michael Moore and comedian/Nerdist Chris Hardwick, who pretended to make-out (?) during Broken Bells’ intro. They must have enjoyed it though: Hardwick took a photo of the band from Fallon’s desk, and Moore strolled up for a Mercer handshake.

Broken Bells’ self-titled album is out now via Sony.
