Over the weekend Jónsi visited the Jo Whiley Show on BBC Radio 1, where he performed the title track from his EP Go Do and a cover of MGMT’s “Time To Pretend.” The cover is a good reminder of two things: How great “Time To Pretend” is (some people need to be reminded today), and how delicately gorgeous Jónsi Birgisson’s falsetto can sound. It’s just him and a piano, so you might notice that he purposely skips over some of the words, touching down lightly on the nouns.
The Go Do EP is out today and the Go LP is out 4/6, both via XL.

Although, I’m not certain it’s “purposeful,” because I heard him speaking English at a show and, well, he’s not quite fluent (see also his English song that sounds like Hopelandic on med sud i eyrum etc). Not criticizing, because I can’t speak a word of Icelandic or Hopelandic.

Music elitist? What does that even means? Anyway. I just got bored listening to it. Never bought it nor understood it. It’s not like Vampire Weekend playing Exit Music (For a Film), they took the song and made it theirs, here Jonsi just sang a song that doesn’t fit him nor did much for it. He just went like Fuck the song, this is the way I sing and that’s what I’m not about to try anything else.
