The Splinters – “Dark Shades” (Stereogum Premiere)

Two of the Splinters used to be in a Misfits cover band called the Skullfuckers. You get some of that punk in the Bay Area quartet’s current sound, but “Dark Shades” is about sunglasses not ghosts or shadows. (And Scott caught them at the Underwater Peoples Ranch in Austin, which was by most accounts, a pretty mellow affair.) How about a garage inhabited by the Shangri Las and early ’90s International Pop Underground instead of Danzig? The track comes from their debut full-length, Kick.
