Mystery Claws – “Flashlights”

The other day we heard from Kisses, the side-project of Princeton’s Jesse Kivel, and this one comes from another branch of the Princeton family: brother and bandmate Matt Kivel’s own project seems him join forces with Julia Bembenek  and drummer Stella Mozgawa of Warpaint as the L.A.-based Mystery Claws, who’ve just released an album on the new digital + vinyl (CDs are done) label Easter Everywhere. The bright and buoyant lead track “Flashlights” is their statement of intent — think Celebration and Katrina Ford were they less bent on Sitek’s dense swirls and more on sunny drives down the PCH.

Mystery Claws debut LP Hydaspia is out now via Easter Everywhere (13th Floor Elevators reference, not a theological one). L.A. folks can catch Mystery Claws with Sleeping Bags, Gamble House, Princeton, and a DJ set from Kisses (who we heard from earlier today) at PehrSpace in Echo Park.
