The video for the first single from Mojo is pretty low-key. Mojo is his first record with the Heartbreakers in eight years, and they almost seem to be the focus of this performance video. Especially prominent is Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell, who takes over for the last third of the song. It’s a surprisingly riff-heavy ending for a Tom Petty song. But Petty did promise Mojo would have “… longer, more jam-y kind of music.”

Mojo is out 6/15 via Reprise. Petty’s got a long tour planned around the release:

  1. Canada can’t listen to Tom Petty anymore?

  2. I’m pretty sure those tour dates aren’t accurate anymore. They moved a lot of dates back to “finish the album.”

A friend of mine was supposed to see TPATH in Dallas tomorrow night, but instead they’re going to be on SNL with Alec Baldwin.

  3. If this song is a good indication for the album, Masters Of Reality would be the perfect opener. It sounds like something straight of Sunrise on the Suffer Bus.

  4. Also, tour dates are missing the 9/21 Dallas, TX date.

  5. Speaking to just this song, doesn’t this sound like a Black Keys b-side. I know Tom’s been in the game for a long ass time, but it’s kind of weird to hear legends channeling the new guys.

Random, but kind of related: Does anyone hear a Phoenix influence in Pearl Jam’s “The Fixer”.

    I miss old Pearl Jam.
