Tokyo Police Club PR 2010

Tokyo Police Club and Passion Pit are often tour mates, and probably mixtape mates for a great deal of love-starved pubescents. Both bands capture teen regret and anxiety with pitch perfect (and some time high-pitched perfect) accuracy. Champ‘s first single, “Wait Up (Boots Of Danger)” was already running at breakneck speed, so Passion Pit mostly just turn up the caffeine for their remix, removing the layers and turning it into a percussion workout. They keep Dave Monks’s half-admiring, half-worried vocals, which grounds the fury of tiny drum beats around it.

The band also premiered a video for “Breakneck Speed,” the first track we heard from Champ. The video is made of tour footage and in-the-studio video, fitting for the song’s nostalgic tone:

Champ is out 6/8 via Mom + Pop/Memphis Industries.
