Panda Bear - Tomboy

Hey, Animal Collective fans: Turns out Panda Bear performed new material live at Primavera Sound. It’s a dark, pulsing drone that heaves itself into a kaleidoscopic Panda Bear moment on the back of his signature vocalizations. GvsB points out a King Tubby loop in there, too. Take a look/listen and then get caught up on the upcoming single/tour. Hell’s bells.

Last month we reported on a forthcoming two-song “Tomboy” 7″ featuring the title track of Panda Bear’s Tomboy album. As we mentioned, according to its Amazon description, it’s set to be “the first in a series of limited edition 7″ singles by Animal Collective’s Panda Bear.” A press release let’s us know the singles in the series will all be out on different labels (Fat Cat, Domino, Kompakt, etc.) and won’t be available digitally until the album’s released. Also, each will only be pressed once. As mentioned previously, “Tomboy” will be backed by “Slow Motion.” It’s out 7/12 (artwork above). No idea if the song you just watched Panda conjure is either of those, but judging from this description, maybe not:

The two new songs “Tomboy” and “Slow Motion” maintain the kind of upbeat vibe found on Panda Bear’s previous solo album Person Pitch, but forged with a new sonic language that isn’t as sample-centric. Dance beats meld effortlessly with electric guitars and Noah’s now trademark vocal harmonies to create the NEXT Panda Bear sound

Maybe you’ll find out when he comes to your neighborhood:

  1. i cannot wait

  2. Really love this guy, but damn is he boring to watch.

  3. i don’t think i’ve heard that first one before, but the second one has been around for a couple years now and i think most people call it “surfer’s hymn”, probably unofficially though. love that song!

    • “Surfer’s Hymn” – according to an official setlist paper that leaked on CollectedAnimals – is an official title. An awesome one, too.

Judging from the boots, the songs “Last Night at the Jetty”, “You Can Count On Me”, and (yes) “Surfer’s Hymn” are going to be some of the year’s best tracks from any group or artist. No hyperbole there.

      • couldn’t agree more… i listened to two different boots of his new material from a couple months ago, and they’re amazing, but i kind of want to forget how it all sounds before the album comes out so its all new to me again! hard to resist though, “you can count on me” is so damn good. even when its sung out of tune on a low quality recording. haha.
i suppose i shouldn’t worry though because their songs always sound different on their actual albums than how they play em live… should be interesting

  4. HE IS RELEASING A SINGLE ON KOMPAKT???

THIS IS GONNA BE SO JACKIN
