Last week Thurston Moore’s remix for Crystal Castles made “Celestica” skuzzier. Memory Tapes’ hazy remix of “Suffocation” does a lot more. Dayve Hawk emphasizes the track’s translucent keyboards and breathy vocals instead of the dance floor drums, making it more of something you’d shuffle to with your shoulders down. Not sure why, but his version of the vocals reminds me of Xiu Xiu, how Jamie Stewart can sound airy and stressed at the same time (appropriate song title, I think).
