Earlier this year, Green Label Sound released Neon Indian’s “Sleep Paralysist” with a lot of fanfare (and wallpaper). Wavves’s Nathan Williams recorded the next Green Label Sound release, “Post Acid,” in Oxford, Mississippi at Sweet Tea Recording. The release says he was “guided” by studio owner Dennis Herring, which is probably the right word. As Rogue Wave mentioned in their Progress Report, he’s a strong voice in the studio (he’s also recorded Modest Mouse, Elvis Costello, and the Walkmen at Sweet Tea). “Post Acid” is a totally bright, slightly snotty punk pop song. By “bright” I mean that it’s got less distortion and feedback than what we’ve heard so far from King Of The Beach. Makes it easier to hear the bridge, which starts as a wordless melody, and turns into a funny, throaty shout. Have a listen:

  1. And to think it only took backing from Mountain Dew for Wavves to release their most ‘accessible’ single to date.

  2. never thought i’d say it….but definitely missing all that fuzz

  3. Dammit, I can’t hear this Wavves song over somebody in the next room playing early Blink 182 on a mid-range stereo.

  4. surprised and glad about this one

  5. Wavves is the new Jay Reatard (RIP)

  6. this is good. i like it. it’s nice and catchy and non-obnoxious while staying bratty and hip.

  7. Wavves are playing a house show in Memphis on Monday with Magic Kids and Bake Sale.

  8. blink-182ish

    • i dont see what everyone is so worked up about. wavves always sounded like blink 182. drop a song from cheshire cat into garage band and crank up the reverb and distortion. you will see my point.
