A couple of months ago I suggested considering Damien Jurado’s words on holy experiences and unknown darkness when listening to his ninth album Saint Bartlett. It provides a framework. As an example, the collection’s lead track “Arkansas” raises some questions/answers if you go that route:

Is love a “holy” experience? Sure. Is Arkansas a person or a place? Both and more. And, why the “aw man” when we fade out and the credits roll? It’s up to you to fill-in the finale.

I wrote that before the Lance Alton Troxel and Ulysses///Onasis-directed video for the track filled-in the finale.

Saint Bartlett is out 5/25 via Secretly Canadian. Take another listen to “Cloud Shoes,” too.

  1. SO EXCITED TO SEE/HEAR YOU IN THE BIG LOU (St. Louis to you…) NEXT WEEK!
Hope you like it here. It’s neat. Enjoy all the “urban decay” as you are driving through town. The Arch is getting a lil rusty though. Don’t know if I would recommend a ride to the top. It’s a little sketch. Don’t judge us. That’s all OK BYE.
