Ever been roofied? We have! (It was meant for a girlfriend, but still.) Shit got trippy quick; we were just minding our own at a bar in The Big Easy during Mardi Gras and *bam* … the world was weird. Well, BBC 1 premiered Bloc Party’s first video from A Weekend In The City last night, and it paints a similar story. Kele and the boys are at a pub looking bored to tears — until Okereke’s last libation makes it the surreal deal. Watch it here (via P4K). Someone needs to give Bloc Party a lesson in partying! Guys, you don’t need E to have fun.

    white kids dancing.
    acid-induced visual ideas.
the easiest video for an artist to take place in since bittersweet symphony.
    video gets a 5.5-
9.5 if i were on drugs right now.

I have no idea why they chose this song as their first single, the rest of the album is amazing!!

  5. lolz @ kory.

    Love me some AD.

they chose that song, because it’s the only decent one on the album. and that’s only because it sounds like tv on the radio.

They’re sad because they miss Panic! at the Disco.

  8. Hallo,

David Bowie here, now I’ve partied with the Bloc Party chaps, and it really was as dull as that video.

The video itself is a rip off of Madonna’s Power of Goodbye if you ask me.

One question tho’ , the Bloc Party record that “leaked” a month ago, is that the finished (mastered) article or what? Cos that video sounded a bit different…

If this sounded like TV on the Radio my ears would be bleeding and I’d be weeping for mankind. So I’m glad it’s not. Still, I worry about this album given they abandoned Epworth as producer.

  10. Yeah, Epworth was definately the “fifth member” of Bloc Party for Silent Alarm.

I think they should have got Nigel Godrich for the new one.

i love bloc party but this song really annoys me for some reason. and the video didn’t help much either.

the band had the “taste the sadness” look for much of the video.

“the prayer” is going to be nme’s single of 2007. a godrich-produced album would be interesting; it’d probably be something like ‘hail to the thief’ with a bp twist.

  13. kinda small…wish someone would upload this to YouTube

Holy snap this does sound a little TVOTR-ish. It’s kinda weird. And anyway, Bloc Party at their worst still sounds miles better than P!ATD at its best.

please don’t ever put “hail to the thief” and bloc party in the same sentence. i don’t care who produced it…they could never make an album half as good as any radiohead album.

also, it DOES sound like TVOTR, so your ears must be bleeding. you can hear it in the beat and the guitar strumming pattern and melody sounds A LOT like something david sitek would do.

The writing on this blog has really been deteriorating lately. It doesn’t surprise me that no one wants to take responsibility for any of the entries. The posts went anonymous after everyone realized that amrit was doing all the shitty posts. please make it good again.

  18. if you don’t like this blog…. don’t read it anymore?
    simple solution?

i’m pretty sure “silent alarm” outdoes “pablo honey”…

  20. Yeah… the whole roofied thing probably wasn’t in the best taste.
