In their label writeup, Swedish orchestral pop band Sambassadeur get pegged as starting as “a DIY version of ABBA” back in 2003. That’s something people say about Music Go Music, too, but Sambassadeur have a more elegant, non-kitsch sound. That, and vocalist Anna Persson brings a deeper melancholia into the picture. See, for instance, “I Can Try.” The song would work well on a mix with the Clientele The video, directed by the Mary Onettes’ Philip Ekström, is sorta like Charles Dickens meets Huck Finn meets Laurie Anderson in the Swedish countryside.
