Warm Up 2010 At MoMA PS1 Schedule

A couple of months ago MoMA PS1 Director Klaus Biesenbach — the person who organized MoMA’s ridiculously popular Marina Abramović exhibition, among other things — asked me if I’d want to help curate shows for this summer’s Warm Up series at PS1. You may have attended one/more of these Warm Up events in the past — they take place outdoors in the PS1 courtyard on Saturday afternoons/nights. This year there are 10 shows. That’s more work than one set of hands should handle. The team Klaus put together included me, True Panther’s Dean Bein, XL Senior Vice President of A&R Kris Chen, Robin Carolan of 20 Jazz Funk Greats (and Tri Angle Records), DFA manager/co-founder Jonathan Galkin, and Ronen Givony, the founder of Wordless Music and a promoter at Le Poisson Rouge. (The team was assisted/kept apace by Seva Granik, PS1′s Jocelyn Miller, and MoMA’s Eliza Ryan.) We met, brainstormed, and ate diner food. The fruits of our collective juggling include DJ sets from Animal Collective and ?uestlove and various live/DJ sets from Air France, Delorean, Ratatat, Janka Nabay, Big Freedia, CFCF, recent Paw Tracks signees Prince Rama, Oneohtrix Point Never, Holy Ghost!, Glasser, Peter Gordon And Love of Life Orchestra, Kingdom, These Are Powers, Peter Zummo doing Zummo With An X, etc. Check it out. Buy suntan lotion.

  1. I think that Warm Up is a great party! I wrote about it on my blog http://planeteastmusic.com before being able to go, but finally made my way there 2 weekends ago. The “Pole Dance” installation was wild and very fun to play with! Everyone there was having a blast and I’ll definitely be going back! :)
