James Elkington’s brood-pop outfit The Zincs won us over with his Thrill Jockey debut Dimmer, and the forthcoming LP Black Pompadour brings even more praise-worthy pop out of the somber tunesmith. The Brit expatriate uses keys, horns, and his rich baritone throughout to craft subtle hooks and dark moods, perfect for your “deep thoughts” days. Here’s the premiere of the album opener — which also happens to be our favorite cut — full of tom-heavy lilt, sustained synths, and melody-riding guitars. Bittersweet and very awesome.

Enjoy.
