Polaris 2010 Short List

If you recall, Fucked Up won the 2009 Polaris Prize for best Canadian album of the year, beating Chad VanGaalen and Malajube, among others, and then gave the $20,000 in prize money to charity. The 2010 Shortlist was just announced. (Canadians seemingly have a predilection for guys named Dan.)

The Besnard Lakes – The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night
Owen Pallett – Heartland
Broken Social Scene – Forgiveness Rock Record
Radio Radio – Belmundo Regal
Caribou – Swim
The Sadies – Darker Circles
Karkwa – Les Chemins De Verre
Shad – TSOL
Dan Mangan – Nice, Nice, Very Nice
Tegan And Sara – Sainthood

The winner will be announced in a ceremony on 9/20. The folks at Polaris note that two artists have won previously: Owen Pallet for Final Fantasy’s He Poos Clouds in 2006 and Dan Snaith for Caribou’s Andorra in 2008. More facts at polarismusicprize.ca.

  1. Sad to not see Apollo Ghosts on the shortlist, and as much as I dig the albums, I question the inclusion of Sainthood and Darker Circles on that list. I don’t even dig Crystal Castles that much and I think that record was better than both.

Yukon Blonde and Apollo Ghosts got snubbed, methinks.

  2. +1 for Sainthood, I loved that album.

  3. Frog Eyes should be on here.
