A few weeks ago, Black Lips submitted a Progress Report on their forthcoming 200 Million Thousand. Having a real practice space for the first time (New Street Gallery in Decatur) allowed the band to practice a lot more than usual, drummer Joe Bradley told us. He also promised the LP was more melodic than Good Bad Not Evil and captured the band’s live energy. Based on a listen to the ramshackle pop “Starting Over,” he wasn’t lying.

Yes, that’s another headache inducing optical illusion album cover above. Insound should ship free Excedrin with purchases in ’09.

200 Million Thousand is out 2/24 on Die Slaughterhaus/Vice Music.

This is the first year I’ve been interested in music, and Stereogum’s been so great at getting me into stuff I’d never be otherwise (High Places, Marnie Stern, Lykke Li). Thanks, and keep up the good work!
