Lately we’ve seen BTW Land Of Talk’s Elizabeth Powell performing with Broken Social Scene, though she took a break immediately after joining to have vocal surgery in early 2009. This year there’s a better reason for her absence from the band: Powell is prepping the follow up to 2009′s Fun And Laughter EP. Land Of Talk’s next record, Cloak And Cipher, will arrive this fall on Saddle Creek. Patric Watson, as well as members of Stars, Wintersleep, Besnard Lakes, Arcade Fire appear on the record. “Swift Coin” is a good way to announce an album, it rumbles and crashes from the start, with lots of off-kilter lead guitar from Powell. It’s a nice contrast to her smooth-as-glass vocals.
