Andy Hummel, Big Star’s original bassist, died yesterday after fighting cancer for two years. He was 59 years old. Hummel was in Austin at SXSW for the impromptu Alex Chilton tribute that took place when Chilton passed away March 17, days before their show. Drummer Jody Stephens is now the only surviving member of Big Star’s original line-up.
