Primitive is a great song, but I wouldn’t recommend the album as a whole. The majority of the songs sound like poor Starflyer 59 efforts. The biggest disappointment of ’04 to date.
My iPod has been stuck on Primitive for days. I’m still not sick of that riff.
yeah, i have to agree that ambulance was a dissapointment. i saw them last week with stellastarr* and i thought they sucked. their music did nothing for me but make me want to curl up on the floor (right there at irving) and go to sleep or leave the show.
plus the lead singer’s manorexic chest is kinda scary.
Can’t vouch for their live show, but the album is great. Especially if you like bands like Spoon.
I love the Ambulance LTD. album, though I admit, live they leave something to be desired. The album sounds like a mix between wilco, supergrass and ride, all with some nuggets like moments straddling throughout the record. I think its only downfall is its strength; that the album varies so much from track to track, a listener may lose sight of what they’re doing. I’ll say top 15 of the year for sure. And its nice to hear something that isn’t so dance rock/post punk coming out of Brooklyn. But Jesus Christ! How about that new Modest Mouse? So addicted.
ps anyone listening to The Elected? Two members from Rilo Kiley. So good. Reminds me of Wilco, Ed Harcourt, Elliott Smith and Bright Eyes. Good, good stuff…
on the speakers is fairly good. i caught them with sleepy jackson a few weeks ago, good live show.
I can’t vouch for what other people are saying about the Ambulance Ltd album. I generally like it, though it doesn’t really blow me away as anything special.
The greatest disappointment is the remix of “Heavy Lifting” — on the 5 track EP they had out a few months ago, it was great and awesome and amazing… and so on. What compelled them to change it? I liked that version much better, and I don’t see why they felt like adding another verse.
As far as favorites go, I’d vouch for “Yoga Means Union,” “Ophelia,” “Michigan,” and “Swim.” But that’s me.
