The Lonely Forest Album Art

Washington State foursome the Lonely Forest caught the eye/ear of Death Cab For Cutie’s Chris Walla, who not only signed them to his new label, Trans, but also produced, engineered, and mixed their debut EP and upcoming LP, Arrows. This first taste is an ode to the Pacific Northwest (and, in a way, a diss to Los Angeles and Nashville) that might remind you of another product of the Pacific Northwest, Band Of Horses.

The Lonely Forest EP is out 9/14 via Trans. Here’s the track list:

01 “Turn Off This And Go Outside”
02 “Ramshackle House”
03 “Live There”
04 “Let It Go”
05 “Turn Off This Song And Go Outside (Acoustic)”

They’ve also got a bunch of upcoming tour dates with Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin and Margo and the Nuclear So and So’s.

  1. Digging this song but it might make for awkward November 16th.

  2. this sounds nothing like Band of Horses, and Band of Horses never sounded like they were a NW band in the first place

    • you are correct, that was a terrible comparison. but you need to hear the album “we sing the body electric” .

    • psh–The Lonely Forest don’t sound anything like BoH but Phil Ek’s hands are -all over- BoH’s albums and they don’t sound like anything that would have come from outside of the NW to me, personally–the way the vocals and guitars were engineered and mixed hardly step a smidgen outside of the way he handled Built to Spill, the Shins, Modest Mouse, Fleet Foxes, etc. And more generally, musically they fit pretty comfortably with that whole horde of 90s-and-onward country/folk influenced indie pop/rock, don’t they? My two cents.

  3. These guys are awesome. Check out their full album from before the got signed. His vocals on some of the songs like “Tomato Soup” “Julia’s Song” “Stick Upon Stick” and “Golden Apples…” are what really got me hooked. He doesn’t seem to show em in this song though.

Awesome live too. Saw them at Bumbershoot last year. A lot of good energy.

  4. Anacortes Über Alles!

  5. Such a great band and lovely people as well… check out John solo acoustic last year at MFNW in PDX.

  7. These guys deserve the coverage. See them live, they sound excellent and have great energy.
