Yesterday the National delivered “So Far Around The Bend,” Dark Was The Night‘s most immediate track to date in a lineup that’s also brought us Dirty Projectors + David Byrne, the Books with Jose Gonzalez, Feist + Ben, Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear, and The National. It’s an issue of The New Yorker come to life! It’s also a good compilation. For a good cause. For instance, today we find Yeasayer clapping their way across a “Tightrope.” 24 hours ago Matt Berninger & Co. demanded we listen closely to words to get their Big Apple storyline. This morning you can push your chair back and focus on Yeasayer’s rhythms and textures (and rainstick) and hop onto the lyrics later. It’s at MySpace.

Dark Was The Night is out 2/17 via 4AD and benefits the Red Hot Organization.

  9. Kudos to Red Hot/4AD for this album, of course, but here’s an instance where they don’t know quite what they’re doing: a live rendition of this song for Minnesota Public Radio, from last October, has been pulled from YouTube. Web Sheriff is busting public radio now, too? Lame. http://minnesota.publicradio.org/display/web/2008/10/30/yeasayer/

    • I should note that it’s a video that was pulled, not audio, from YouTube. I don’t know how somebody watching Yeasayer play months ago for Minnesota Public Radio is going to harm the sales of the proper audio recording version?
